Service CU is a credit union offering 14 accounts that interact with estate planning in different ways. As a membership-based credit union, Service CU approximately 35 branches in New Hampshire, 2 in Massachusetts, 1 in North Dakota (Grand Forks AFB), and 14 on U.S. military installations throughout Germany. Membership open to military members, Department of Defense civilians, and residents of select communities. CO-OP Shared Branch network access at 6,000+ branches nationwide. Trust accounts must be opened in branch or by phone and cannot be opened through an online application. Visit any Service CU branch with your trust documents (or Certificate of Trust), government-issued photo ID for all trustees, and the trust EIN or SSN. Call 800.936.7730 to initiate the process. IRA accounts cannot be retitled to a trust but can name a trust as beneficiary.
IRA accounts cannot be retitled to a trust. However, you may be able to name a trust as the beneficiary of your IRA. Consult a tax advisor before doing so, as naming a trust as IRA beneficiary can have significant tax implications for distribution timelines and required minimum distributions. Service CU offers investment and financial planning services through Service Financial Group. Securities and advisory services are offered through LPL Financial, a registered broker-dealer and investment advisor (member FINRA/SIPC). Available services include retirement planning consultations, investment management, and rollover IRA assistance. These products are not NCUA insured. Service CU provides referrals to LPL Financial pursuant to a referral agreement.
Service CU membership is open to active duty military, veterans, Department of Defense civilians, and their families. Membership is also available to residents of select communities in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and North Dakota. Service CU operates 50+ branches including locations in Germany serving U.S. military personnel. Membership requires a $5 deposit into a Primary Savings Account.
The Deployed Warrior Savings Account earns 10% APY on daily balances up to $10,000. It is available to active-duty military, reserve, and guard members serving in combat zones as defined by Service CU. Deployment orders must be provided. Monthly deposits cannot exceed net military pay. Withdrawals before the redeployment date plus 120 days result in account closure and funds transfer to a Primary Savings Account.
