Extended to Morgan County, Limestone County (AL), and Lincoln County (TN). Also serves 1,800+ partner organizations and military members. 28 branches in the Tennessee Valley. Frequently asked questions

For a Redstone account with no POD beneficiary and no surviving joint owner, the estate representative normally provides Letters Testamentary or Letters of Administration. If the estate is small enough, Alabama's summary distribution procedure can be used instead of full administration. Act 2025-431, effective October 1, 2025, retied the small estate amount to the combined homestead allowance, exempt property, and family allowance as adjusted for inflation under Ala. Code § 43-8-116 - and the Alabama Department of Finance's January 6, 2026 memorandum to probate judges puts that combined figure at $47,000 ($18,800 homestead + $18,800 exempt property + $9,400 family allowance). The estate must be personal property only; real property cannot pass this way. Madison County estates file the petition in the Madison County Probate Court. Because the figure is inflation-adjusted, confirm the current amount with the probate court before filing.

No, and this is a real planning trap. Redstone is a credit union, so every accountholder must be membership-eligible. The Membership Agreement states that if a successor trustee is not eligible for membership - a corporate trustee, for example - the trust account will be CLOSED. If your revocable trust names a bank or trust company as successor trustee, the Redstone deposit accounts funded into that trust will not survive the handoff. Redstone also requires a trust certification confirming your powers before it will open the trust account or make any change to it, states that it is not required to know, understand, interpret, or enforce the terms of your trust, and does not keep the trust instrument in its files. Redstone provides no in-house trust administration.
