Preparing your OnPoint Community CU accounts for estate transfer involves two key steps: designating beneficiaries on each account and, where appropriate, retitling accounts into a trust. Because OnPoint Community CU is a membership-based institution, trust retitling must maintain the membership eligibility requirement. Accounts with Payable on Death designations or trust ownership bypass probate entirely.

With 14 product types, OnPoint Community CU offers a range of transfer options. Some accounts support Payable on Death (POD) designations, others can be retitled into a trust, and some require probate if no beneficiary is designated. The sections below break down each step.

Required Documents

  • Trust name, date established, and tax ID (EIN or SSN)

Special Requirements

  • POD designations apply to checking, savings, money market, and certificate of deposit accounts
  • IRA and HSA accounts use a separate beneficiary designation process governed by the IRA/HSA agreement
  • POD beneficiaries receive equal shares unless otherwise designated
  • Submitting a new POD designation replaces all prior beneficiary designations on the account
  • OnPoint is not obligated to notify POD beneficiaries of the designation
  • Accounts payable to more than one POD beneficiary are owned jointly and equally by surviving beneficiaries with rights of survivorship
