Preparing your Bayer Heritage accounts for estate transfer involves two key steps: designating beneficiaries on each account and, where appropriate, retitling accounts into a trust. Because Bayer Heritage is a membership-based institution, trust retitling must maintain the membership eligibility requirement. Accounts with Payable on Death designations or trust ownership bypass probate entirely.

Bayer Heritage offers 11 accounts, each with its own transfer rules. The sections below cover how to set up beneficiaries, fund a trust, and which products support each approach.

6All account owners must sign the form

Required Documents

  • Trust name, date established, and tax ID (EIN or SSN)

Special Requirements

  • Bayer Heritage supports Payable on Death (POD) designations on deposit accounts
  • Beneficiaries must provide their full legal name and residential address
  • Unless otherwise stated, all living beneficiaries receive equal shares upon death of the last surviving account owner
  • Members may designate unequal shares by providing percentages in writing
  • The credit union reserves the right to refuse some forms of beneficiary designation
  • Beneficiaries have no interest in or access to the account until the death of all account owners
  • West Virginia state law governs POD account designations (W. Va. Code 31A-4-33)
  • IRA beneficiary designations are separate from deposit account POD designations
