What happens if my trustee dies or can't serve anymore?
Your trust document should name successor trustees who automatically step in if the original trustee dies, becomes incapacitated, or resigns. If no successor is named or available, the court will appoint a replacement trustee. This is why many people name multiple backup trustees in order of preference.
