Learn about estate accounts and how they work in estate planning. Discover the different types of accounts used to manage assets and streamline wealth transfer.
Several account types can bypass probate automatically. Joint accounts with rights of survivorship transfer directly to the surviving owner. Accounts with payable-on-death (POD) or transfer-on-death (TOD) beneficiaries go straight to named beneficiaries. Trust accounts owned by your revocable living trust also avoid probate entirely. Contact your bank or financial institution to add beneficiary designations or retitle accounts into your trust name.
