Understand conditional wills and when they take effect in estate planning. Learn how these specialized documents work with specific triggers and circumstances.
A conditional will only becomes active when both the person dies AND the specific condition written into the document occurs. For example, if your will states assets go to your children only if they graduate college, the will won't distribute those assets until that educational milestone is met. If the condition never happens, the conditional provisions don't execute, and your estate may pass according to other parts of your will or state intestacy laws.
