When a CommunityAmerica member passes away, the Estate Representative / Account Settlement handles the transition of accounts to beneficiaries or the estate. Accounts with Payable on Death designations or trust ownership transfer outside of probate, while solely-owned accounts may require Letters Testamentary or Letters of Administration from the probate court.
CommunityAmerica provides an online portal for initiating death claims, which can simplify the initial notification and document submission process. Claims can also be started by phone or by mailing the required documents.
Here is the step-by-step death claim process at CommunityAmerica:
CommunityAmerica will not settle any account until an official death certificate is provided. For mortgage loan inquiries related to a deceased member, contact TruHome Mortgage Servicing at 913.214.3345. For loan repayment alternatives or account resolution matters, request to speak with an Account Resolution Counselor. For investment and wealth management accounts, contact CommunityAmerica Wealth Management (Copper Financial) separately at 800.892.7957.
Processing timelines at CommunityAmerica: The Estate Representative review may take several days. POD accounts with named beneficiaries are processed more quickly than accounts requiring probate. Timeline for probate-dependent accounts varies by court jurisdiction.. Incomplete documentation is the most common cause of delays—submitting all required documents with the initial claim helps avoid additional processing time.
CommunityAmerica requires several documents to process a claim, including Certified death certificate (required before any account can be settled), Government-issued photo ID (driver's license, state ID, or passport) for the claimant or beneficiary, and Letters Testamentary or Letters of Administration (if no POD designation and probate is required), and additional documentation depending on the account type. Certified copies are typically needed—photocopies are generally not accepted for death certificates or court documents.
Contact CommunityAmerica at 800.892.7957 or visit a branch to report the death. An Estate Representative reviews the account types, ownership, and beneficiary designations. Joint accounts pass to the surviving owner. POD accounts distribute to named beneficiaries upon providing a death certificate and ID. Accounts without beneficiaries require probate through Letters Testamentary or Letters of Administration. CommunityAmerica will not settle any account until an official death certificate is provided.
CommunityAmerica's Estate Representative / Account Settlement can be reached by phone at (800) 892-7957 for questions throughout the claims process.
If the deceased held multiple CommunityAmerica accounts, each may require a separate claim or have different documentation requirements. The Estate Representative / Account Settlement can confirm which accounts require individual attention and which can be processed together.
