Adobe Inc. reviews transfer requests for accounts individually upon receipt of documentation
Adobe offers a suite of creative and document tools including Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, After Effects, InDesign, XD), Document Cloud (Acrobat, Sign), Lightroom, Adobe Stock, Adobe Fonts, Adobe Express, and Firefly AI. An Adobe account can hold cloud-synced files, Lightroom photo libraries, Stock license history, font activations, Creative Cloud Libraries, and Adobe Sign agreements.
When a Adobe account holder dies, their accounts may be transferred to a designated person at Adobe Inc.'s sole discretion. A transfer is not guaranteed, and satisfactory documentation is required before processing any request.
Adobe has a formal process for closing accounts on behalf of deceased users, accessed via a Privacy Inquiry Form. However, this process covers subscription cancellation and account closure only. Adobe does not document granting file access or transferring cloud-stored content to executors or family members. The process requires a death certificate, proof of relationship, and proof of legal authority. Adobe states a 7 business day response time. After account termination, Creative Cloud files are retained for approximately 30 days before deletion. Lightroom cloud photos are retained for approximately 1 year after subscription lapse. Free accounts are deleted after 18 months of inactivity.
Adobe Inc. does not guarantee transfer of accounts after death. Lifetime planning provides options for managing accounts and controlling who has access to them.
7 steps for managing your Adobe accounts during your lifetime:
Adobe accounts are non-transferable per the General Terms of Use. There is no family sharing, authorized user, or account transfer mechanism for individual accounts. Enterprise and Teams accounts have admin-managed user seats, but the account itself cannot be transferred. The only lifetime preparation strategy is downloading and locally storing all cloud-synced files.
When someone dies
Transfer is handled on a case-by-case basis, 7-step process, and 4 required documents.

Lightroom cloud photos are retained for approximately 1 year after a subscription lapses, which is significantly longer than the 30-day retention for other Creative Cloud apps. After this period, cloud-only photos are permanently deleted.
No. Adobe Stock licenses are perpetual for the original licensee but non-transferable. Assets already downloaded and used under a valid license remain legally usable, but the license itself cannot be assigned to another person or account.
Free Adobe accounts are deleted after 18 months of inactivity, including all associated cloud data. This means an unattended account will eventually be automatically purged without any notification to family members.
