Cuyahoga County’s New Estate Planning Program Explained

SimplyTrustSimplyTrust Editorial·February 8, 2026·2 min read

Explore Cuyahoga County’s new program simplifying estate planning.

Have you ever wondered how to navigate the complexities of estate planning without getting lost in the probate maze? Cuyahoga County is stepping up to make this process easier for residents. With the recent launch of the Great Estates Program, local families are getting access to crucial information and assistance aimed at transferring property outside the traditional probate process.

Scheduled community events at local libraries this October will provide an opportunity for residents to learn about both probate and non-probate options. These sessions are designed to empower individuals with knowledge that could save time and money down the line. For those who pre-register, the added benefit of having a copy of their deed available at the event is a real bonus. Plus, attendees will be able to record transfer on death designations right there on the spot.

In addition to the Great Estates Program, the Cuyahoga County Probate Court has also updated its policies for requesting copies of case documents. Residents can now request full case copies through the web docket, streamlining the process significantly. This means no more waiting for responses via email or phone calls, which can often lead to frustrating delays. Instead, a quick online search can get you the information you need, making the estate planning process more efficient.

The Probate Court has also announced upcoming delayed openings for the Probate Clerks Office due to mandatory training. On January 17, 2024, and several other dates throughout the year, the office will open at 9:30 a.m. rather than the usual time. It’s essential for residents to plan accordingly if they need to conduct business with the court on those days.

As estate planning continues to evolve, staying informed about local programs and court policies can greatly benefit families. Whether you’re looking to simplify your estate transfer or just need a better understanding of your options, the Great Estates Program and updated court procedures are excellent resources. Don’t miss out on these opportunities to secure your family’s future!
